ABOUT ME

Belinda Wreford, born in Usk South East Wales, grew up on the outskirts of Newport Gwent, a fast-growing town, with a love of the great outdoors and fascinated with nature. I took every opportunity to explore discover and run freely in the surrounding landscape of fields hills woodland streams rivers and canals.

My parents were hard-working, both creative in their own way, which complimented each other’s effort for a good life. During my school years, my main interest was Art and Crafts and edging nearer the end of my school days I longed to go on to Art College, however, it was more of a priority for me to start work, help out at home, after the loss of my Father.

By the time I reached 21, I believed there was more to life!

An opportunity presented itself and I set off on a whim in the Blink of an eye… with friends travelling to America and a few years later went on to Australia. A wonderful learning curve I discovered so much about the world, people and myself, and experienced such a diverse variety of career paths on what I call the Great University of Life.

It was during my time in Australia that a friend who owned a reclamation yard suggested I try my hand at Stained Glass. After one day with a stained glass craftsperson, I was hooked, captivated by the colours and the craft I found it amazing to work with. I continued to self-teach it took many months of practice before I felt good enough to design and make a commissioned panel for customers. The old recycled doors and windows were restored, my stained glass panels fitted in them, and they went on to a glorious new life.

At 27 I returned to South Wales and had the honour of working briefly at Tredegar House Newport for Bryn Young. The workshop was cold during the winter months especially after living in Australia and orders for commissions slowed down for a spell. I went on to work in a number of local Electronic & Cable Manufacturing companies for many years after that and only continued with the stained glass as a side line and hobby.

The last Company that  I worked for developed and manufactured defence systems for the MOD. I was involved in fibre optic development and manufacturing but unfortunately, the site closed and moved to Winfrith Dorset in 2014. I have since moved to Pembrokeshire working from home in my Stained Glass Studio set in the countryside near the Preseli Hills.

Stained glass is magical to work with, each and every piece excites me and I cannot wait to solder the design together to then hold it up to the light.
